TVLand's Movie Land Comedy Movie Trailer Collection

Thursday May 15, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- TVLand becomes Movie Land online with a special department devoted to classic movie trailers -- and nearly 300 of those are popular comedies.

Since the Hollywood habit is to show the best gags for free within the previews of coming attractions, there are plenty of chuckles to be found in this gallery, which includes Annie Hall, 10, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, A Christmas Story, Young Frankenstein, Uncle Buck, Duck Soup, City Slickers, The Seven Year Itch, Gremlins, Groundhog Day, The Jerk, The Pink Panther, Singin' in the Rain, The Producers, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Mister Roberts, and Help!

Just add popcorn -- and a computer.

Bad Spock Drawings

Wednesday May 14, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Now ear this! Artists and doodlers are invited to contribute their schlock Spock caricatures for public scrutiny, ridicule, and scorn. This hallowed online gallery is all part of a grand celebration of Leonard Nimoy and the original Star Trek television series.

No, not really. It's just junk -- but junk from outer space!

30-Second Bunnies Theatre

Tuesday May 13, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Infectious charm and occasional adorable violence are aglow in the offbeat animations at Angry Alien. Now showing in the 30-Second Bunnies Theatre, remakes of cinematic classics (Caddyshack, The Shining, Titanic, Casablanca, Napoleon Dynamite, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Exorcist, Brokeback Mountain, Snakes on a Plane, etc.), all in 30 seconds or so, reenacted by bunnies.

Two, please.

Other visual entertainments near the Bunnies' auditorium include PigeonKam surveillance footage and an inconspicuous gem, Amy's Diary. It seems "Amy found her [1977-78] third grade diary, and ten entries have been painstakingly colored with crayon and narrated by experts to preserve the essence of the third grade gestalt."

Now, I'm hopping off to watch March of the Penguins in 30 seconds with bunnies. These guys can act anything! Please, Oscars, The Jean Hersholt Bunnitarian Award....

Myth-Busting Your Mother - 16 Reasons Mom Was Wrong

Monday May 12, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- I've written about universal momisms, those iconic things dear mothers say to drive us precious kiddies crazy. I never had scientific proof my mommy was hosing me -- until now.

An insightful and comical article on view at Mothers Day Central tears the big lies apart, including:

  • "Stop cracking your knuckles ... it will give you arthritis!"
  • "If you swallow a watermelon seed, it will grow inside your stomach!"
  • "If you keep making that face, it might freeze and stay that way forever!"
  • "You're going to poke someone's eye out with that!"
  • "Make sure to clean behind your ears -- if not, potatoes will start growing there!" See, I knew that one was preposterous. I harvested a few beans and a small persimmon, but that was it for me. And I used peat moss.

Also addressed is "If you keep playing with it, it will fall--"

Well, never mind, Mom wouldn't like me discussing this one and I am not allowed to read about it either.

    Poo.

  • 9 to 5 Comic Strip

    Sunday May 11, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Online distributor GoComics.com says of this Monday through Saturday strip:
"Welcome to Harley Schwadron’s working world. In 9 to 5, office interactions are treated with an extreme dose of honesty and humor. Imagine a world where the bosses say exactly what they mean, freed from any semblance of sensitivity or tact. No facet of business is safe from the sharp satire of this strip, which just makes it funnier for the rest of us."
Interesting. We shall take a look, as soon as we get to work.

See the latest panel and the decent file systems of past cartoons at GoComics and Tribune Media Services.

    The Belching Bug Show

    Saturday May 10, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- I can name that tune in one belch.

Make your own kind of music by conducting a burping insects choir. And don't forget to shake your groove thing.

It has always bugged me I did not have a musical outlet -- and now I can with bugs. Life is crazy. I've also started rubbing my legs together to a high chirp before a puddly rain.

    The Candy Wrapper Museum

    Friday May 9, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Why this could be the grandest job in the world! Let's see what the curator of the tasty and toasty Candy Wrapper Museum has to say.
"I began collecting wrappers in 1977 with an eye toward the unusual, ironic, and aesthetic, although I also collected 'classic' but more mundane wrappers for posterity's sake. I haven't yet counted all the wrappers in my collection, but it's HUGE. It's stored in a stack of boxes nearly 4 feet high and about 1.5 feet x 2 feet wide."
And, my, oh, my, yes, there has been mastication.

Phew, I'm getting the vapors. I like candy.

See actual sugary treats packages with nostalgic and witty comments.

Hillary vs. Obama - The Dueling Senators Punch-Out Game

    Thursday May 8, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- Oh, goody, I was just talking about stuff like this one.

It's The Beast With Two Heads, the little problem within a certain political party. Somebody will not go away -- and we won't say whom, but Kewlbox will let you decide with their latest online game, pitting Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama. The instructions state:

"Debates won't settle party politics, but your fists will! Pick the Democratic candidate you support: Hillary or Obama? .... The faster you click [your mouse], the more punches are thrown, and the more 'party points' you earn! You only have 15 seconds before the Secret Service will pull you off the candidate, so don't hold back. ... For extra points, hit puppets that appear on the sidelines."
Kewlbox said it, not me, adding, "No Democrats were injured in the making of this game. They do enough damage to themselves on the campaign trail."

    Man Babies

    Wednesday May 7, 2008
The Funny Site of the Day -- I've always been fascinated with the idea of swapping heads. We've seen a lot of that in old B-movies like The Thing With Two Heads ("They transplanted a white bigot's head on a soul brother's body!") and The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant.

Now comes Man Babies, where pa and papoose noggins have been switched onto their kinfolk's frames. And that's doubly scary, what with diaper concerns and all.

See the ongoing photo gallery and gawk and grin -- and, kids, do not try this at home.
